Have you heard of TOMS shoes? This company is a giant pile of awesome. The basic premise is that you buy a pair of their shoes, and they’ll donate a pair to a child in need. And now they have a line for brides.

Now admittedly, these shoes are not as stylish as a pair of Manolo’s. But…hello! Can you imagine how much more comfortable you’ll be dancing the night away in a pair of these? And you’ll be helping a kiddo in need to boot. They even have some fun tips for incorporating TOMS into your big day. Read about it right here.

September Charity

For the month of September, I have donated to Autism Speaks. The statistics concerning autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) is startling: today 1 in 150 people are diagnosed with autism. This is more common than AIDS, pediatric cancer and diabetes COMBINED.

This cause is near and dear to my heart because my mom works in a school with kids who have ASD. It’s heartbreaking to hear about these kids who are unable to communicate, who won’t make eye contact or smile, and whose tiny lives revolve around confusing repetitive behaviors.

This month, I have decided to donate to Kitz for Kidz, which provides clothing, hygiene products and school supplies to children in need.

One of my favorite things to do as a kid was to draw and color with my jumbo box of crayolas. It’s sad to think that this simple joy is often withheld from needy kids. This charity assembles various kits for school kids and presents them in cool packages. Cool packaging is always a bonus in my mind.

CURE International

Make a Wish

I was recently asked to help fulfill the wish of a young girl participating in the Make A Wish Program’s Arizona chapter. Janet Marhover, Catering Manager at Val Vista Lakes spearheaded the operation.

Lizbeth is a 14-year old girl who is battling Renal Disease. Lizbeth’s wish was to have a blowout Quinceañera before having a kidney transplant in July. So I was of course thrilled when the opportunity presented itself to get involved.

With the help of Artisan Photography and Whitten Printers, we created an invitation featuring a gorgeous photo of Lizbeth and her sister.

This is such an amazing organization and I was so excited to participate in this project. With any luck, this will be Lizbeth’s dream party!

LIVESTRONG Day

Today is LIVESTRONG Day, the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s one-day initiative to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer.

I can’t think of one person who has not been in some way affected by cancer, and I am grateful there is someone like Lance Armstrong out there to get us motivated to do something about it.

And if that’s not enough to get you motivated to give, check out this commerical. It’s a Nike spot from Lance’s riding days, and one of my all time favorite ads. I choke up everytime I see Lance do the fist pump to the kids in the hospital.

For April’s charity, I designed a flyer for a Dress Drive that will benefit

The Arizona Princess Program and Hope & A Future.

Hope & A Future provides various opportunities for Arizona Foster Youth, including sponsoring a summer camp, The Arizona Princess Program, an annual Christmas Celebration, educational scholarships and more.
