Inspired by Concert Posters

When I was in college, my idea of stylish decor was plastering every inch of free wall space with any combination of Dave Matthews Band/Ben Harper/(insert your favorite jam band here) concert poster. That was the late 90′s, and most of the posters were pretty lame. Just a photo of some dude with a guitar. Probably with some sort of wince or sneer or other facial expression denoting how much he was into the jam, man.

Fast forward a decade or so, and suddenly concert posters have become something to behold. Bold, graphic, illustrative, stylistic. Dare I say downright appropriate to frame and hang. Observe:

Fabric Obsessed

My parents bought me a sewing machine for my birthday. Yada, yada, yada…I now want to sew everything in sight. Oh, and I’m obsessed with patterned fabric. I could look at fabric sites all day if I wasn’t busy working on design projects and chasing a very active 10-month-old around the house. But it’s probably all for the best. If left to my own devices, I’d go into debt buying up fabric and American Spoon preserves.

Fall Colors

Pantone released their Fall 2011 color forecast this past winter. I usually glance at the predictions, but Fall is the furthest thing from my mind in February, so I’m taking a second look now.

My first thought is that I’d love a long wool coat in Cedar and it would be nice to paint every wall in my house various shades of Quarry. A scarf in Emberglow would be fun, too. What do you think? Do these color predictions have any effect on the things you’ll buy this fall?

Spring is here! I wish I could bottle it up. It’ll be 117° in this godforsaken desert before I know it.

Fun New Books for the Interior Design Obsessed

Two books popped up on my radar the other day, and they were instantly added to my wish list. Ironically, it appears as though we have a décor war brewing. Observe:

The titles are a bit bossy, right? DECORATE! NO, UNDECORATE!

Decorate comes to us from Holly Becker of Decor8 fame. Anthropologie has the exclusive on this book until it’s officially launched April 20. After that, you can find it at your favorite bookstore or ginormous online mecca of everything.

Undecorate is the work of Dwell Studio genius-at large, Christiane Lemieux.

I can hardly wait to get my hands on these beauties. They’d make a great Mother’s Day gift. HUSBAND, ARE YOU LISTENING?

Did you know there are roughly 3,498 different theories on how best to feed your newborn? And get her to sleep? And they all seem to contradict one another. So I decided to ban baby books for awhile.

In lieu of all that madness, I picked up a few business books that I thought I’d share. All worth a read. And the pumpkin? Oh, the pumpkin was 69 cents at Safeway. And I wanted an excuse to use it as a prop.

I spend a lot of time carefully packaging invitations and stationery for my wonderful clients. Lately, I have been wishing for something to give said packaging a little pizazz. I think the answer is wonderful, magical patterned masking tape. I may need all of these. Just for test purposes, of course.

Boat Chic

I don’t know about you guys, but I have been seeing examples of what I like to call “Boat Chic” all over the place lately. And I couldn’t be more delighted! As much as I love the look of modern design, I have always been smitten with preppy, casual elements. Seersucker, plaid, and of course STRIPES.

I know “inspiration boards” are all the rage for event planning and such. I have instead decided to create an inspiration board for Summer 2010. Perhaps the first of many, but nonetheless. This is the look I want RIGHT NOW.
