Building a Brand: Juniper & Dash

Sarah is an event designer in the Philadelphia area, and her branding wasn’t giving her great results. Her beautiful work and fun personality were getting lost in the stuffy style of her existing brand, so it was obvious we needed to do an overhaul. Sarah has the ability to design around many different styles and didn’t want her branding to pigeonhole her as too “vintage”, too “modern”, too “glam”, etc. You get the picture. This is a challenge many in the wedding and event industry run into. It’s important to showcase your versatility, but not lose yourself either.

After some discussion, here is the final product! Presenting Juniper & Dash!

I love how Sarah’s branding turned out! Once again, with the help of Lily Ciric-Hoffmann, we were able to put together a great-looking website and corresponding blog that fit Sarah’s eclectic style to a tee. Sarah already has loads of cool things cooked up for the official launch of her new brand, so keep her on your radar. She’s one to watch!

Thank you Sarah, for bringing Lily and I onto such a fun project!

Building a Brand: Crystal Faye

I had the opportunity to work with Crystal Gonzalez not one, but TWO times this year! Our first project was to tackle her wedding stationery (which I will feature in another post) which was amazing! This girl has got great taste, so it’s not surprising that shortly after becoming a newlywed she endeavored to create a super-chic online boutique. That’s what I’ll talk about here.

Crystal’s eponymous shop (her middle name is Faye) carries loads of wonderful trinkets, jewelry, paper goods and monogrammed items. Since this was a brand new shop, we had to build from the ground up – logo and branding, plus a shop/blogsite that she could easily work with. Once again I turned to my web genius, Lily, to code and program her shop and blogsite to perfection. We basically used a Shopify site for ease of use in the e-commerce department and hacked it to Crystal’s liking.

The whole project revolved around the theme of “preppy chic”, which is Crystal in a nutshell. We used coral, indigo and khaki to build the color story and incorporated quatrefoil patterns throughout her branding. The website utilizes a lot of clean, bright white space to really make the products shine. I loved this assignment and am so happy for Crystal! Her shop is thriving and she’s adding new items all the time. Go visit! And follow her on Twitter, she loves to post discount codes! (Which you will want because if you love preppy chic, you will be emptying your wallet on a regular basis!)

Thank you, Crystal! We had such a great time scheming this look for you and hope your shop is wildly successful!

Building a Brand: Jennifer Bowen Photography

2012 was a busy, busy year! So busy that I spent most of my time buried in projects and not sharing them as I should be. So please bear with me as I play catch up and share with you the many amazing projects I am lucky to say I got to work on in the Year of the Dragon.

First up is a branding project for the immensely talented Jennifer Bowen of Jennifer Bowen Photography. I first got to know Jen when she shot the “Birds and the Bees” themed baby shower table I designed several years ago. Since then, she has been my go-to photographer for family photos. You can see for yourself here, here and here. She’s very good at what she does, yes?

So when she approached me to help her refresh her brand, I of course jumped at the chance. Jen wanted something a little more feminine and modern, so we expanded on her previous color palate of greens and added some fresh neutrals. Her logo is simple and pretty and works well against her beautiful images. In addition to some print pieces, I partnered with my web guru Lily Ciric-Hoffmann (who I’m convinced might be part wizard) to completely overhaul Jen’s existing site. She went from two separate sites (one Flash-based website housed at one URL and blog housed under another) to one streamlined site that serves as both a portfolio website and a personal blog. It was a serious undertaking! Go look and leave her lots of lovely comments!

Thank you, Jen, for entrusting us with this important project!

Free Desktop Wallpaper for January 2013!

Happy New Year, folks!

Apologies for the delay, (I know you have all been waiting with bated breath) I offer no excuses except for the fact that I have been traveling, sick and also have a sick toddler. Again, I offer no excuses.

Hope everyone had a lovely holiday! For January 2013 I have incorporated a pattern of winter branches with Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2013: Emerald. And as an added bonus, I have also included a link to download your very own KAD Facebook header for January! If you guys like this option, I’ll continue to design one for each month. Editorial Calendar for Bloggers

I love designing fun things that are also helpful, and this project was no exception. When my friend Liene asked if I could help her come up with a visual reference for bloggers wanting to write about holiday-specific ideas, I happily obliged.

If you are a blogger, you might find this editorial calendar really helpful, and bonus! You can print it out and keep it nearby! Just click on the graphic and you can read all about it (and download it) on Liene’s site. Happy Blogging!
